So far I've done a chicken and a pork tenderloin. They tasted good, although I think that a pellet smoker (admittedly far more money) is superior. I'm still looking forward to trying a really big cook like a pork shoulder or a brisket (just waiting for a sale :-) ). I ordered the junior because I didn't want to waste a full load of coal on every cook. After my first cook the coals continued to smolder all night long and I could smell it in my bedroom when I opened the window to go to bed that night! That wasn't acceptable. I reasoned that if I had some kind of "shepherd's crook" I could pull the coal basket out of the cooker and just set the whole thing in my airtight weber kettle to snuff them out. The second time I cooked I looked around in my shed and found the perfect garden tool to do exactly that. (google for "3 tine garden cultivator" to see what I mean") Worked exactly as expected, and I ended up with half a basket of coals left for my next cook.

It took me a while to decide on the PBC and longer to decide one the Junior over the original. In the end the idea of hanging meat appealed to me and the size of the smaller unit won out. Did I make the right choice? Time will tell. I will say that the Junior is a tight fit for even a couple of racks of ribs and so in that way, I sometimes think I regret not getting the bigger unit. That said there are some benefits to the Junior. I like the fact that I can get 4 cooks out of one 16lb bag of charcoal. I like the fact that it is easy to move around. I like the fact that it is smaller to store. It works for me for now and so I really have no regrets. Why 4 stars? Well partly because I think the larger unit really is the better choice for most everyone, and partly because I am still dealing with the learning how to smoke meat. I have 4 cooks under my belt and all have been good, but none of my meat has come out great. I don't blame the PBC, but rather my inexperience. I learn a little more each cook and hope to one day become repeatably proficient. The PBC Junior is not hard to use. In fact it is very simple to use once you get a few things figured out. I will say that I feel a lack of control with it though. For example I have very little control of the temp. Open the vent some, close the vent some, it holds very close to the same temp. Take the lid off while I check things and it cranks up. This is where some experience will help. In the end the PBC Junior is doing what I wanted, it is cooking meat in a relatively simple manner, that results in some pretty tasty meals. Would I do it again? Sure but I might go bigger.

I sort of wish I had gone the classic size but 99% of the time, it's just me so I know this is actually the better, more efficient choice for my smoking needs.
